Tehran says a bright future awaits Iraq

TEHRAN, Feb.22(MNA)-- Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said he is optimistic about Iraq’s future.

“In view of the measures taken in Iraq we are very optimistic about Iraq’s future and we are ready to cooperate to enhance ties with the friend and brother country of Iraq,” Salehi said in a meeting with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Hussein Shahristani on Sunday.

Iranian experts have good specialist and technical knowledge in various fields, so Tehran and Baghdad can work together without any need for foreign countries’ assistance, the minister stated.

Shahristani added the ongoing developments in the region have increased the necessity of strengthening relationship between the two neighbors.

Although Iran and Iraq already have a good relationship with each other, it is necessary that the two countries’ officials make every effort to enhance ties.

Shahristani also commented on the cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector and said that considering its experiences and capabilities in this area, Iran can help Iraq develop its energy sector.

“We welcome stronger presence of Iranian companies in Iraq and see no limitation and obstacle in this way,” Shahristani explained.
