Iran`s Ferdowsi literary award proposed at Sarajevo Winter Festival

TEHRAN, Feb.22(MNA) -- Sarajevo Winter Festival director Ibrahimu Spahicu welcomed the idea of establishing Ferdowsi(Persian poet) literary award in collaboration with Iran’s Ferdowsi Foundation to honor Iranian and Bosnian top poets.

Iran’s Ferdowsi Foundation is holding a cultural fortnight on Ferdowsi’s magnum opus Shahnameh at the Sarajevo Winter Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina running from February 7 to 29.

In a meeting held by Iranian and Bosnian cultural officials, the participants also agreed to add the literary section named Ferdowsi to the festival where world literati can gather to discuss Shahnameh and Persian literature.

The 27th edition of the festival offers nearly a month of cultural and artistic events involving more than 1000 artists from 20 countries.

The festival program includes plays, concerts, movies, fine arts, exhibitions, panel discussions, literary events, architecture, video, and cultural heritage and children’s events.

Last week on February 15, a bust of Ferdowsi, created by Iranian sculptor Afshin Esfandiari, was unveiled during a ceremony attended by Iranian and Bosnian officials, the head of the Ferdowsi Foundation Yaser Movahhedfar told .

Esfandiari also created a statue of Khayyam(Persian polymath) within six days, Movahhedfar said, adding that Amra Madzarevic, director of Sarajevo Museum agreed to preserve the statues in the museum to be later installed in two cultural centers in the city with the collaboration of Iranian embassy in Sarajevo.

“Members of the foundation also held a meeting with Bosnian scholar Namir Halilovic where they agreed to conduct joint projects on Persian literature,” Movahhedfar added.

“The translation of Shahnameh into Bosnian by Halilovic was also discussed at the session; the project will need Iranian cultural foundations’ financial support,” he remarked.

Several plays by Iranian troupe Simorgh are scheduled to be performed during the upcoming days.

The fortnight is co-sponsored by Iran’s cultural attaché office in Sarajevo, Iran’s Ferdowsi Foundation and the International Peace Center in Sarajevo.
