Latin America, victim of imperialism: Ecuadorian speaker
TEHRAN, Feb.23 (MNA)--Ecuadorian Parliament Speaker Fernando Cordero said Latin America is a victim to the influence of imperialists in this region which has brought poverty and misery for people
.
Cordero made the remarks in a meeting with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary, Saeed Jalili, in Tehran on Tuesday.
He also highlighted the prominent role of Iran in the international scene, saying Iran and Ecuador share common views on various international issues and this can lay the groundwork for strengthening relations.
Jalili said the United States is the greatest supporter of dictatorial regimes in Latin America and the Middle East.
Jalili pointed to the recent uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa which have led to major political changes, saying, “The wave of Islamic Awakening is spreading.”
He also described the popular movements against the autocratic governments all over the world as “the nations’ slap in the face of America,” and said that the U.S. can not hypocritically cover up its support for dictatorship against nations over the decades.
“The U.S. is currently stuck in quagmire of supporting the dictators and its desperate efforts will plunge it deeper into the quagmire,” the security official stated.
