Japan Emperor meets with Pakistani President Zardari

TOKYO (Kyodo) - Japanese Emperor Akihito offered his condolences Wednesday to visiting Pakistani President Asif Zardari on the floods that caused heavy damaged in Pakistan last year, the Imperial Household Agency said.
''It must have been hard with many victims and large amounts of damage,'' the emperor was quoted as telling Zardari who was on a three-day visit to Japan from Monday during their meeting at the Imperial Palace.
Zardari requested that either the emperor and his wife Empress Michiko or Crown Prince Naruhito and his wife Crown Princess Masako visit his country, the agency said.
The emperor also referred in the meeting to Zardari's loss of his wife, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto who was assassinated in 2007. Zardari responded that the memory of his wife has always stayed in his heart.
