Qadhafi will be tried in Lebanon on March 4: Musa al-Sadr daughter

TEHRAN, Feb. 23 (MNA) – A trial session of Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi, in connection with his role in the mysterious disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr in 1978, will be held in Lebanon on March 4, 2011, al-Sadr’s daughter announced on Wednesday.

“The case is in legal process and the Qadhafi court is scheduled to be held on March 4, 2011,” Howra al-Sadr told reporters at the Imam Musa al-Sadr Cultural and Research Institute in Tehran.

Musa al-Sadr was an Iranian-born Lebanese philosopher who spent many years of his life in Lebanon as a religious and political leader.

In August 1978, al-Sadr departed for Libya with two companions to meet officials of Qadhafi’s government. They were never heard from again, and many believe they met with foul play at the hands of Qadhafi.

In August 2008, Lebanon issued an arrest warrant for Qadhafi and 11 other Libyan officials, charging them with kidnapping al-Sadr. Qadhafi was also indicted for “inciting the abduction” of the senior cleric.

Libya has denied responsibility, claiming that al-Sadr and his companions left Libya for Italy in 1978. However, many believe that al-Sadr is still alive and is being held in a secret jail in Libya.

Hezbollah has also said Libya is first and foremost responsible for al-Sadr’s disappearance.

Al-Sadr, his companions are alive

At the beginning of the press conference, Howra al-Sadr delivered a speech in which she emphasized that his father and his two companions are still alive and are being held in a jail in Libya.

She also held Qadhafi responsible for the abduction of his father.

Elsewhere in her remarks, al-Sadr criticized the international bodies for not pursuing the case of his father and called on the relevant officials to make serious efforts to determine his fate.

Dr. Firouzan, the son-in-law of Imam Musa al-Sadr, also said that the relevant documentation proves that al-Sadr is alive.

Firouzan, who worked as IRIB reporter in Beirut at the time of al-Sadr’s abduction, also urged the Iranian government to publish the minutes of the meeting between the officials of former president Mohammad Khatami’s government and the Libyan officials in which the Libyan government admitted to the abduction of al-Sadr.

Asked about the recent comments by Tehran’s ambassador to Damascus Ahmad Mousavi on the case of al-Sadr, Firouzan said at the moment Mousavi holds no post in the committee responsible for pursuing the al-Sadr case.

In fact, at present no committee in Iran is responsible for pursuing the case, he added.

Ambassador Mousavi said on Tuesday, “We still hold Qadhafi responsible for the protection of the life of Imam Musa al-Sadr and believe that Imam Musa and his companions are in a Libyan prison.”

Mousavi also called on UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to take measures to free al-Sadr and his companions.
