Foreign Ministry surprised at Senegal decision to cut ties with Iran

Tehran, Feb 24, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Ministry said the Senegalese government’s decision to cut diplomatic ties with Iran had no logical reasons and justifications.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement it was surprised by the decision which it said was adopted under the influence of extra elements.

It said the Senegalese government announced its decision to do so despite the fact that following exchange of visits between the two countries, which resulted in talks in Dakar, the military and political officials of both countries stressed the removal of all misunderstandings and highlighted the need to promote bilateral ties.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry further underlined that the issuing of the statement by the Senegalese government at that time which stressed removal of misunderstandings as well as the return of the Senegalese ambassador to Tehran was taken as solid indication of normalization of ties between the two countries.

The statement further highlighted the priority of expansion of all-out relations with all African nations as an inalienable principle in Iran's foreign policy and said the Islamic Republic remained committed to all agreements reached with African nations based on mutual respect./end
