Arab solidarity march held in London

London, Feb 26, IRNA – British human rights organizations and peace groups Friday joined a variety of Arab liberation movements in a march of solidarity with series of uprisings in many Mideast countries.

The march assembled outside the Bahraini Embassy in central London before moving on to the Libyan Embassy and ended in a protest rally outside Prime Minister David Cameron’s office.

Groups participating included Libya Watch for Human Rights, the British Libyan Solidarity Campaign, Yemeni Human Rights Watch, Egypt Liberation Initiative and the Bahraini Freedom Movement.

They were joined by Britain’s largest peace group network, Stop the War Coalition (STWC) and the British Muslim Initiative as well as the Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

“As millions in the Arab world take to the streets against repressive, western backed regimes, it is very important that
people here show their support for the protestors,” STWC said..

Next Wednesday, the SWTC is also holding a public meeting questioning “What next for the Egyptian revolution?”,
saying although former president Hosni Mubarak is gone, his administration is still in place, with the army holding the reigns of power, led by Field Marshall Tantawi, who Wikileaks revealed recently is regarded by the United States as 'Mubarak's poodle'.

The solidarity match comes after regular demonstrations have been outside various Arab embassies in London over the past month in support of coinciding and continuing uprisings in the Middle East./end
