Iran president praises Para Games winners
TEHRAN, Feb, 26 (MNA) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad paid tribute on Thursday to the Iranian athletes who claimed medals at the 2010 Asian Para Games.
In a ceremony held at the Iran Sports Federation for Disabled the president addressed a total of 80 medal winners.
“We finished fourth in this event but I believe we can move up to second place in the 2014 Asian Para Games. Our disabled athletes displayed the greatness of Iranians in the competitions,” Ahmadinejad said.
In the games Iran came behind China, Japan and South Korea. Iranian athletes wrapped up the event with 27 gold medals, 24 silver and 29 bronzes.
A total of 2,512 athletes, 1,286 officials, 1,096 technical officials from 41 countries and regions of Asia, and 2,558 journalists from 185 media outlets were present at the 2010 Asian Para Games in China from December 12 to 19.
