Pakistan faces political crisis as coalition collpases

Islamabad, Feb 26, IRNA -- Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif here Friday expelled ministers of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of President Asif Ali Zardari from the cabinet of his Muslim League-N party is leading in the biggest province, Punjab, sparking a new political crisis.

Sharif's party faces no threat to its government as members of provincial assembly from other parties have announced support for the PML-N.

Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani tried to save the colaition but failed despite his Thursday night meeting with Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif, brother of Nawaz Sharif.

'President Zardrai did not honor promises to PML-N and now our paths are different,' Nawaz Shaif told a news conference in Islamabad.

He said that the government has also failed to implement PML-N 10-point agenda in a deadline, which expired on Thursday.

Sharif earlier presided over a crucial meeting of PML-N central committee and other members in Islamabad.

In the meeting the Chairman of the Dialog Committee Ishaq Dar constituted for dialogue with the government and briefed the participants of the meeting on the progress on implementation on the agenda.

Nawaz Sharif alleged that President Zardari wanted to give constitutional cover to the emergency of November 2007, of former President Pervez Musharraf. He further said that the government did not accept the independent judiciary with open heart.

'President Zardari had promised to reinstate the judges in 24 hours but failed to fulfill his promise,' Nawaz said added that judiciary could be restored on the very first day of the government.

Sharif also charged that corruption is being protected by the PPP government, adding that the Supreme Court is trying to bring this menace to an end./end
