Amano: Agency committed to expansion of peaceful nuclear energy usage

Vienna, Feb 25, IRNA – In response to an Iranian lady’s letter, IAEA Chief noted that his affiliated organization is committee to its responsibility regarding assisting the expansion of energy nuclear fore peaceful purposes.

Amano made the comment in a letter to Mrs. Qassemi, the widow of martyred Professor Dr. Majid Shahriari, who got killed in a terrorist attack when a bomb exploded in his car in November, 2010.

In his letter to the late Iranian professor’s wife Amano has expressed regret over the terrorist act, sympathizing with the entire bereaved people in that sad event.

Amano has assured Mrs. Shahriari that besides being fully committed to block the path for the proliferation of the nuclear weapons in the world, he is also quite committed to assisting countries that intend to take advantage of the nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, a the service of the world nations’ life in peace, good health, and wellbeing.

Martyr Shahriari’s wife had in her letter to the IAEA secretary general written, “Usage of the nuclear weapons in your country’s Nagasaki and Hiroshima cities has led to victimizing thousands of innocent Japanese citizens, and laid the foundation of an ugly phenomenon in the 20th Century that should never be wiped off the minds of the world nations.”

In the letter also reference is made to another ugly phenomenon of the 20th and the current century, namely assassinating the scientists, who are the heritage of the mankind’s science and technology.

In the letter the agency’s heavy responsibility in assisting the peaceful expansion of the usage of nuclear energy, side by side with blocking the path for proliferation of nuclear weapons are mentioned and the Agency’s chief is requested to seriously condemn the horrendous terrorist act against Professor Shahriari and spare no effort in blocking the path for the occurrence of similar sad events throughout the world./end
