Iran crowned Takhti Cup champions

KISH, Feb.28(MNA) -- Iran won the 2011 Free-Style Wrestling Takhti Cup held in Kish Island, Iran, from February 26 to 27.

The Iranian wrestling team clinched five gold medals and wrapped up the championship With 69 points. Kyrgyzstan finished in the second place with 47 points and the U.S. wrestling team finished third.

Iranian athlete Hassan Rahimi in 55 kg class beat his North Korean rival and won the gold. Mostafa Hossein-Khani in 66kg class claimed the gold after beating the American wrestler. In 74kg class, Hassan Tahmasbi defeated his countryman Hessam Moghaddam and won the gold.

Also, Ehsan Amini came first by defeating another Iranian wrestler Ehsan Lashgari in 84kg class and 120kg class Mohammad-Reza Azarshakib won the gold after beating Komeil Ghasemi from Iran.

A total of seven countries, namely Iran, the U.S., Turkey, North Korea, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan and Russia took part in the event.

“Takhti Cup is a good opportunity for Iranian wrestlers to gain experience facing the world’s best wrestlers,” Iran Wrestling Federation president Mohammad-Reza Yazdani-Khorram said.

The organizers handed $7000 in cash prize to the champion, while the second and third teams received $5000 and $3000 respectively.
