Fajr International Poetry Festival wraps up
TEHRAN, March 2 (MNA) -- The 5th Fajr International Poetry Festival was brought to a close here on Tuesday at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall, where the winners received their awards from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini, Iranian Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance for Cultural Affairs, Bahman Dorri, Iranian Academy of Arts (IAA) Director, Ali Mo’allem Damghani, and a group of Iranian and foreign poets also took part in the ceremony.
Ahmadinejad regarded poetry as the common language of human beings and manifestation of an effort to depict mankind.
He expressed hope that the festival would gain more achievements in future editions and, referring to some of the sections with no first winners and said, “If I were a jury member, I would surely have selected all the participants as the first place winners, since entering the world of love equals becoming first.”
Next, Hosseini gave short remarks on Persian poetry and the Fajr Poetry festival. He regards this festival higher than the other Fajr festivals held annually in the country.
He emphasized reviewing the revolutionary poetry and asked the officials to pay attention to the youth and their poetry.
The winners were selected from four different categories, which are: Classic, Blank Verse, Children and Young Adults, and Song.
Thirteen top winners were chosen from a collection of 40,000 pieces of works by 1289 poets, which were submitted to the secretariat of the festival.
The jury did not select a first place award winner at the Classic Section. Iran`s Maryam Aryan from Karaj and Iran`s Mohammad-Javad Shahmoradi from Tehran shared the second award. Tthe third award was given to Iran`s Amir-Hossein Nikzad from Karaj.
The Blank Verse Section did not have a first winner. The second award was given to Ali Hushmand from Bushehr and Majid Nezafat-Yazdi (Tehran) and Sediqeh Moradzadeh (Varamin) shared the third award.
Babak Niktalab from Tehran received the first prize at the Children and Young Adults section. Esmat Eslami and Hossein Tavallaii took the second and third awards.
Four poets were also honored at the Song section, which was a new category at this year’s festival. Samieh Salimi, Hossein Motavallian, Esmaeil Farzaneh and Mehdi Ayyubi were the four individuals honored in this section.
