Samsung to release Nexus S 4G through Sprint

SEOUL, March 21 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co., the world's No. 2 maker of mobile phones, said Monday that it will roll out a new version of the Nexus S smartphone that supports mobile WiMAX networks in the United States.
The Nexus S 4G will be released by Sprint Nextel Corp., the third-largest mobile carrier in the U.S., giving access to Sprint's mobile WiMAX network available in about 70 U.S. cities, Samsung said in a statement.
Mobile WiMAX is the fourth-generation wireless technology that can transmit wireless data at a faster speed than wireless-fidelity (WiFi). The Nexus S phone is the latest reference smartphone from Google Inc. that gets the first updates of Google's Android platform.
The Nexus S 4G is Samsung's second smartphone that is equipped with Sprint's mobile WiMAX connectivity. The U.S. carrier released the Epic 4G last year, a version of Galaxy S smartphone that is equipped with mobile WiMAX connectivity.
