President: Iran, Iraq can give freedom, justice to world

Tehran, March 27, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iran and Iraq have deep-rooted historical and cultural relations adding that the two countries can give a culture of freedom, brotherhood and justice to the world.

According to the report of Presidential Office website on Saturday afternoon, president Ahmadinejad in a meeting with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, who is in Tehran to attend Int'l Nowruz Celebrations, said that cooperation between the two countries has a positive and constructive trend and added that all possibilities for progress of the two countries is now prepared.

He continued that international developments are now in favor of Iran and Iraq and added that the two countries will have an important role in the new political shape of the region.

Ahmadinejad said that Nowruz is a fully human festivity and one of the most important rings of cultural connections between nations.

In the meeting, Jalal Talabani underlined that Iraqi nation will never forget their Iranian brothers kindness during tough and black days and added that both countries had a long and hard fight against dictators and for establishment of democracy and now is a period of development and consolidation of ties between the two governments and nations.

He underlined that Iraq wants long-term and strategic relations with Iran and in current situation the two countries by coordination with each other should use existing potentials in direction of national interests of their own nations./end
