2nd global Nowrouz fest begins in Tehran

Tehran, March 27, IRNA – The 2nd world Nowrouz celebrations began in this capital city in the presence of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Sunday morning.
President Ahmadinejad's counterparts from Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Iraq are also present in these global celebrations being held in the Tehran Saad-Abad Cultural Complex, north of the capital.
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan will join the Nowrouz festival just when he arrives in Tehran today.
A number of officials from other countries, comprising India, Oman, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Zanzibar and Pakistan as well as the general secretary of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), have taken part in this world event.
Introducing the traditional Iranian customs to the participants and planting a tree as a token of peace and friendship are among the plans of these celebrations.
The first global Nowrouz festival was held in Iran on March 27, 2010, in the presence of President Ahmadinejad.
Nowrouz tradition was registered at UNESCO in 2010.
Annually, 300 million people across the world celebrate Nowrouz. Nowrouz (literally meaning New Day), is the celebration of the onset of spring and the solar Iranian year.
It is the most cherished festival celebrated by all Iranians, irrespective of race, religion, status or location./end
