German interior minister under fire for asking Muslims to spy

Berlin, March 30, IRNA - German Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich is facing fierce criticism from the nation's Muslim community for asking Muslims to spy for the state, the press reported Tuesday.
Speaking after attending formal talks between the government and Muslim representatives, Islam expert Armina Omerika slammed Friedrich for urging Muslims to act as police informers.
She stressed Muslims would not allow to be instrumentalized for the security policy of the state.
Friedrich has been promoting the controversial idea of a so-called 'security partnership' between the state and the Muslim community which would focus on reporting radical Muslims to authorities.
As part of Friedrich's disputed plans, he is to organize a 'prevention summit' which would target especially Muslim youths who are deemed suspect of becoming radical Muslims./end
