Ahmadinejad: Syrian Gov’t, people solve problems sagaciously

Tehran, April 5, IRNA – IRI President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in his press conference here Monday Iran does not intervene in other countries’ internal affairs, adding, “Syrian Government and people would solve their problems sagaciously.'

According to IRNA Political Desk reporter, President Ahamdinejad who was speaking with Iranian and foreign media reporters added in response to the Qatar-based English Aljazeera TV reporter who had asked about Iran’s stand regarding the developments in Syria, added, “The Syrian Government is our close friend and it is in the frontline.”

He added, “The Syrian nation, too, is our friend and they are in the frontline against the expansionist policies of the Zionist regime.”

The president pointed out, “Of course we are aware that among the objectives of the expansionist policies of the United States and its allies, particularly the Zionist regime, there is crashing the resistance line and that they are opposed to the existence of friendly and amicable relations between the Syrian government and the Syrian nation and opposed to their solving of their problems among themselves.”

He said that the nations’ freedom is the most important matter, reiterating, “No source can ignore or violate the freedom of the nations, which is of course manifested in the nations’ votes, and there is no other way, but yielding to the rule of the majority.”

President Ahamdinejad expressed hope that a day will come when the votes of the majority would truly be respected in the United States and in Europe, arguing, “Because the people there do not really have the chance to choose freely. There are two, or a number of parties and the people have to vote for their nominees.”

The president added, “In recent US elections you noticed that the people of that country had to vote for the continuation of Bush policies, or to the non-Bush, and there was no other choice before them.”

He added, “Those who cared for the interests of America said vote for the non-Bush, and this means the freedom of choice does not exist there, which is why we hope a day will come when the entire nations, including the Americans and the Europeans would enjoy the right to choose freely.”

Further stressing that the Americans are after interfering in Syria, Ahamdinejad said, “We see that the US Administration has become anxious about the Syrian developments and it looks as if they have celebrated the occurrence of an event and a protest in Syria.”

The president emphasized, “The Syrians are a wise nation. They must sit with their government and solve their problems.”/end
