BOGOR CITY ADM CALLS FOR CLOSURE OF NIGHTSPOTS DURING RAMADHAN

Bogor, W Java, Aug 28 (ANTARA)- The Bogor city administration has called for the closure of night spots during the fasting month of Ramadhan 1429 H (2008).

Head of the city's society unitary and protection affairs, Edgar Suratman made the call here Thursday ahead of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadhan which is expected to fall on September 1, 2008.

The 34 day-closure of the nightspots will be effective from Aug 31 (Sunday) until Oct 5, he said, adding that his office would issue a circular on September 1 regarding the temporary closure of the nightspots, including billiard centers.

"Instruction for temporary closure of the nightspot activities is aimed to respect the Ramadhan holy month and the city's people who will be fasting during the day-time of the month," Edgar said in a meeting with dozens of nightspot managers here.

In the meantime, law enforcement affairs chief of the city administration, Farid Wachdi said his side will conduct a raid following distribution of the secular letter.

"Should a violation happens against the instruction, a warning will be issued. But if the violations repeated over three times, the nightclub concerned will be sealed," Farid added.

Previously, chairman of the Indonesian Council of Ulema (MUI) of Banten province KH Wahab Aprif also called for a temporary closure of nightspots during the fasting month of Ramadhan.
