BAPPENAS: INDUSTRIAL SECTOR GROWTH ON TRACK
Jakarta, Aug 28 (ANTARA) - The National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) said industrial growth during the second quarter of 2008 was on track although its rate was still below the average gross domestic product (GDP).
Deputy for economic issues to the Bappenas chief Slamet Seno Adji said here on Thursday the industrial sector, especially the "tradeable" sectors, still showed positive prospects judging by a number of indicators such as investment growth, foreign investment growth in particular.
Foreign investment in Indonesia grew 86 percent on-year in the the second quarter of 2008.
Other positive indicators were the high performance of the non-oil/non-gas sectors, and a leap in bank credits to finance the industrial sector, he said.
"Please also remember that in our balance of payments, there has been an increase in imports. But most of the imports were basic materials," he said.
Adji also said the government was committed to encouraging industrial sector growth by intensifying development of infrastructure facilities and industrial areas.
