Iran lashes out at Wall Street Journal baseless claims

New York, April 11, IRNA – Iran’s mission to the United Nations has lashed out at the Wall Street Journal for publishing an article against Iran, it was reported Monday.

The US newspaper published an article entitled “What If Gadhafi Had Gone Nuclear?” which blatantly said the Libya's experience highlights the risk of letting countries like Iran continue their nuclear programs.

The article was written by the Zionist regime’s representative to the UN.

Official in charge of the press affairs of Iran’s mission to the UN Ali-Reza Mir-Yousefi sent a response to the Wall Street Journal saying, “Israel is a nuclear threat not Iran.”

“The writer of the article is the representative of the greatest terrorist regime in the world that made unfounded allegations against Iran,” part of Iran’s response read.

It was published in the comment column of the newspaper.

Following is an excerpt of the response:

Regarding the Zionist regime’s Ambassador Michael Oren’s Iran-phobic article “What If Gadhafi Had Gone Nuclear?” (op-ed, March 29): Contrary to the false assertions in the article, Iran’s nuclear program is completely peaceful, and various reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency confirm that after extensive inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities there is no evidence of any military diversion. I repeat, the charges are nonsense and the purpose of the fake propaganda against Iran reflected in this article is to deflect attention from the real threat of nuclear proliferation posed by an expansionist government that continues to oppress the Palestinian people and expropriate their land in clear violation of international law.

It is strange to publish an article whose author is representing the government with the biggest terrorist and apartheid regime which continues its systematic violation of Palestinian rights.

The regime has clandestinely stockpiled nuclear weapons which are a potential threat against the people of the Middle East.

Compared to Iran, which is a signatory in good standing to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and is an enthusiastic supporter of the United Nations’ initiative of a Middle East nuclear-weapons-free zone, the Zionist government has rejected the call by the international community to join the NPT and to allow IAEA inspection of its hidden facilities./end
