Soltanieh blasts western gov'ts for confrontation with Iran
Tehran, April 13, IRNA -- Iran's Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency Ali Asghar Soltanieh on Tuesday blasted the western governments for confrontation with Iran over the nuclear program.
He said that Iran has always been ready to hold talks with Group 5+1 without any precondition
Talking to IRNA, he referred to the letter sent by the EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, to Iranian Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili and cited Jalili's statement that Tehran’s undisputable right should be recognized.
“I have announced in my last speech at IAEA Board of Governors’ session that doors for talks are always open,” he said.
Asked about the IAEA’s right to inspect the spare parts manufacturing factory, Taba, he said that based on the NPT and the IAEA Charter, Iran is not obliged to allow the inspectors to see the site manufacturing tools.
In response to a question whether nuclear safety standards would change due to the radiation risks revealed in Fukushima nuclear power plant, Japan, he said that they may be revised.
“Anyway, we should learn from what happened there,” he noted, declaring that a seminar on nuclear safety will be held in Vienna in mid June.
As to Iran’s investment in Uranium Enrichment Site in France, Eurodif, he said that Iran is Eurodif's shareholder and each shareholder can sell its shares but Iran has so far maintained its shares.
Despite their threats and assassination of nuclear scientists, the enemies could create obstacle in the way of Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities, he said.
The West has understood that the carrot and stick approach is illogical and uncivilized and they had better turn to interaction rather than confrontation, Soltanieh said./end
