Iran-Turkey-Azerbaijan FMs call for more people-to-people exchanges

Oroumeyeh, West Azerbaijan province, April 16, IRNA – Foreign Ministers of Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan Republic called for more and deeper people-to-people exchanges in the region.
In the closing statement of the first trilateral meeting of foreign ministers of the three neighboring countries here on Saturday afternoon, the three ministers said that excellent mutual relations which are rooted in history and common cultural heritage has created a unique opportunity for more solidarity among the three nations.
In the statement, the three foreign ministers underlined cooperation in the framework of economic development and growth, promotion of people prosperity, implementation of joint cooperation plans in the fields of trade, industry, investment, transportation, communication, energy, technology and tourism.
Establishment of an economic committee to consider possibility of signing an agreement on preferential trade, acceleration in custom affairs, reconstruction of border gates, and creation of joint companies for activities in different fields have been agreed in the statement.
Creation of a committee with consulate officials of the three countries to consider ways to accelerate and expand people-to-people contacts were among other agreements of the ministers.
Joint cooperation in the fields of fight against terrorism, organized crimes, illegal drugs, weapon and human smuggling were underlined in the statement by intelligence and security bodies of the three countries.
The three countries also agreed to continue their consultations about international and regional important issues in the level of foreign ministers and in the framework of international and regional organizations such the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Conference and Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
Concerning regional developments, the three countries expressed their opposition by using violence against people, necessity of respecting nations' rights, fullfillment of legitimate, peaceful, social demands of people.
The next session of trilateral meeting will be held on October 2011 in the city of Nakhchivan, capital of autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan Republic./end
