OIC: Amicable Iran-Egypt ties, beneficial to Muslim world

Cairo, April 17, IRNA – Secretary General of Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) underlined importance of consolidation between Iran and Egypt and said that amicable ties between the two countries is beneficial to Islamic high interests.

Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, after meeting with Egyptian foreign minister in Cairo on Saturday and in a press conference said that Iran and Egypt are among biggest Muslim countries and the two countries should create consolidation among themselves and bilateral relations should be expanded and this would be beneficial to stability in the region.

Concerning certain concerns on turning popular revolutions in a number of Arab countries to sectarian conflicts between Shia and Sunni Muslims, Ihsanoglu said that OIC is against turning religious differences into political conflicts.

He added that the organization could bring an agreement between Iraqi Sunni and Shia Muslims in year 2006 to stop sectarian war between them.

The secretary general said that extremism is contradictory to real Islam and added that, in extraordinary meeting of OIC in Mecca, it was underlined that extremism and violation in religion should be stopped./end
