BEIJING, April 19 (KUNA) -- As the famous saying goes "all good things come to an end," Kuwait Cultural Week in Beijing, part of the 40 years celebrations of diplomatic ties between China and Kuwait, concluded here yesterday with Kuwaiti participants remembering their unique experiences during the event.
Maestro Ahmad Hamdan, member of the Eastern Music Section sharing the stage with the Kuwaiti Television Band, said that the participation in the event was a long sought step to bring such kind of music and culture to the Chinese audience.
Previously, the Chinese people might have seen such kind of music on television or during events held by the embassy to highlight Kuwait's national occasions but the cultural week provided a chance for those people to be up-close to such art, resulting in requests to teach such music here in China, said Hamdan.
"Music is more comprehensive in connecting people more than language," affirm ed Hamdan, stressing that it was like an open door to boost relations between Kuwait and China.
On her part, Reem Al-Wugaiyan, member of the board and head of media at Beit Al-Sadu (House of Weaving) Society, said that her participation was to highlight the traditional craft of Bedouin weaving, introducing it to the Chinese people as a product of Kuwaiti heritage.
Beit Al-Sadu is aiming at preserving such tradition, stated the participants, adding that the craft was also being reinvented to produce modern bags and items. She affirmed that the Chinese people were very intrigued by such craft.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Dashti, Media Researcher at the Environment Public Authority (EPA), felt that the authority's pavilion had attracted a huge number of visitors during the side exhibitions.
EPA pavilion had mission to showcase how Kuwait would handle pollution, said Dashti, adding that they were eager to exchange expertise wi th the Chinese on such subject.
With these comments by members of the Kuwaiti delegation participating in the cultural week, it seemed that the message has been delivered to the Chinese people and that was of course all due to the efforts invested by the Kuwaiti diplomatic corps in Beijing, the performers, sponsors, and Chinese authorities.
Seeing the Chinese people smiling, clapping, and even sharing the stage with Kuwaiti performers only proved one thing, the Kuwait Cultural Week in Beijing was an "accomplishment."
