Iran Deplores West's Silence on Massacre of Bahraini People

TEHRAN, April 20 (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast condemned the silence shown by the western countries and the so-called advocates of human rights on the massacre of the Bahraini people by the Al-Khalifa regime, and urged the world states and bodies to show their claims in action.
"They should account to the world public opinion for their double-standard attitude towards events in different countries and they should explain why they have remained indifferent to (the loss of) people's lives and to the human rights that they claim to be its advocates," Mehman-Parast told reporters in his weekly press conference in Tehran on Tuesday.

He also underlined that the oppressive measures taken against the Bahraini people and the silence shown by the so-called human rights advocates will remain in the minds of the world public opinion.

Mehman-Parast reiterated that Iran will make its best efforts to stop the violent and inhumane attitude of the Bahraini security forces and their Saudi collaborators towards the people in the tiny Persian Gulf island.

Two months after the eruption of mass protests in Bahrain, the kingdom still kills the opposition, jailing hundreds of activists in a crackdown that has unveiled the Obama administration's support for dictators in the region.

Bahrain's monarchy, since calling in Saudi troops to help crush protests, has been quietly dismantling the country's opposition.

Since February 14, Manama has been conducting a brutal crackdown on protesters who want an end to the rule of the Al-Khalifa dynasty.

In March, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait deployed their troops in Bahrain to reinforce the armed clampdowns.

According to media reports, the harsh crackdown has so far left tens of people dead and hundreds more injured.

Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have condemned the Bahraini and Saudi regimes for the heavy-handed tactics against civilians in the Persian Gulf state.
