Ahmadinejad Calls for Enhanced Cooperation with Pakistan in War on Terrorism
TEHRAN, April 23 (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a meeting with visiting Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik urged Islamabad to boost cooperation with Tehran to intensify campaign against terrorism.
The two sides should spare no efforts to continue campaign against drug trafficking and terrorism, he said, adding that such cooperation would be to the benefit of both nations and the entire region as a whole.
The Islamic Republic of Iran fully backs development and security of Pakistan and believes that countries of the region can protect the security of the region, Ahmadinejad said.
He also said on Wednesday that existing relationship between Tehran and Islamabad is excellent and no one can harm it.
President Ahmadinejad made the remark in a meeting with on Wednesday.
The president described relations between the two countries as deeply-rooted, historical and cultural.
There are suitable grounds for expansion of all-out ties as well as regional cooperation, said the Iranian president.
Growing ties would help bolster peace and stability in the region, he said.
The Pakistani interior minister, for his part, called for expansion of friendly relations between the two countries.
Pakistan is to uphold ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran using all its potentials, he said.
Pakistan always backs Iran's legitimate rights and never lets any third country take action against Iran through its soil, he said.
Lauding the humanitarian aid dispatched by the Iranian government and nation for the victims of floods in Pakistan, he said that the Pakistani people would never forget Iran's support.
