Afghanistan's Imports from Iran Reach $1.2bln
TEHRAN, April 23 (FNA)- The value of Afghanistan's annual imports from Iran has reached $1.2 billion, a senior Iranian provincial trade official announced.
The head of Iran's eastern province of South Khorasan's commercial organization, Nader Mirshekar, said that the Islamic Republic of Iran's share in Afghanistan's $6 billion of annual import has reached $1.2 billion.
Speaking at the meeting of a special working group on trade and tourism on Thursday, he emphasized on the need to further boost exports to Afghanistan at a time when Iran's share in the neighboring country's annual import has increased.
Mirshekar placed a high premium on the significant role that South Khorassan province can play in export of goods to Afghanistan, which shares 450 kilometers of common border with the Iranian province, the Islamic republic news agency reported.
"Mahiroud border market with an area of about 10 hectares has been allocated mainly for expansion of bilateral trade ties [with Afghanistan], and merchants can make the most of the opportunity in order to make profit," the Iranian official added.
Iran and Afghanistan enjoy expanding ties and cooperation and observers believe that the good achievements gained in area of their mutual cooperation should be deemed as a result of the efforts made by the two countries' officials.
