Bomber kills 4 in Pakistan tribal region

Islamabad, April 24, IRNA – A suicide bomber Saturday evening attacked a joint convoy of Pakistani security forces and pro-government volunteers in a tribal region, killing four civilians and injuring four troops, TV channels reported.

The bomber exploded his explosive-laden vehicle near the convoy in Bajaur tribal region, Express TV reported.

No group claimed responsibility but Taliban militants regularly attack security forces in the tribal region. There was no official word on the reports.

Bajaur tribal region, bordering Afghanistan, had been once the stronghold of Taliban militants and the security forces conducted major operation in 2008-9.

The army had cleared the army in 2010 but the militants now carry out targeted attacks on the forces and pro-government tribal elders.

In December a suicide bomber killed 47 people and injured over 100 in an attack on a World Food Program (WFP) ration distribution point in the Bajaur tribal agency./end
