World Parliamentarians Condemn Israel in Strong IPU Resolution
TEHRAN, April 24 (FNA)- Members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in their meeting in Panama approved a resolution condemning the Zionist regime for its crimes against the oppressed Palestinian people, including abduction of the Palestinian lawmakers.
The resolution was approved by the IPU Human Rights Committee after the Israeli forces kidnapped and imprisoned a number of Palestinian legislators, including Marwan Barqouti.
The Iranian delegation attending the meeting had sponsored the resolution which was protested by the Zionist regime's representative to the IPU who alleged that the abducted Palestinian lawmakers are terrorists.
The Mexican, Iranian, Palestinian, and other Islamic countries' delegations voiced strong protest against the remarks of the Israeli envoy, reminded and condemned the daily crimes committed by the Zionist regime against the defenseless Palestinian people and demanded an immediate release of the Palestinian lawmakers.
The 124th IPU Assembly and related meetings were held in Panama City from April 15 to 20.
The IPU, established in 1889, is the oldest multilateral political organization. It brings together 155 affiliated parliaments and eight regional assemblies as associate members.
The world organization of parliaments has an Office in New York which acts as its permanent observer at the United Nations.
