Japan's PM Thanks Iran for Aiding Quake-Hit People
TEHRAN, April 25 (FNA)- Japan's Prime Minister Naoto Kan lauded the Iranian nation and government for dispatching humanitarian aids to Japan following the strong quake and devastating tsunami which recently hit Japan's Northeast coasts.
A 9.0-magnitude earthquake off the Northeast coast of Japan's main island on March 11, unleashed a 23-foot (7-meter) tsunami and was followed by more than 50 aftershocks for hours.
In a message issued by Tokyo's embassy in Tehran, Kan reminded the great damages inflicted on his country by the disaster, saying that it killed 13,000 Japanese while the fate of over 14,000 others is still unknown.
Kan added that some 150,000 others who had to evacuate their houses are now living in shelters.
Pointing to the humanitarian aid cargos sent by Iran's Red Crescent Society to Japan, Kan stressed, "We extend our sincere appreciation for these aids and assistances sent from all over the world."
"Undoubtedly, Japan will recover itself and will revive its activity and agility again and turn into a more amazing country than before," the message concluded.
