IRIS WINS US$14.8 MLN CONTRACT IN EGYPT
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- Global solutions provider IRIS Corporation Bhd announced Tuesday that it has clinched a contract to supply, deliver and maintain equipment to upgrade Egypt's National Identification Production Centre for the production of contactless identification smart card worth RM50.4 million (US$14.8 million).
The contract is for the purchase of new equipment as an upgrade of the
existing production facility, enabling the facility to be upgraded with
state-of-the-art contactless smart cards equipment, it said in a statement here
Tuesday.
Currently, the national identification card of Egypt is made of
polycarbonate plastic card with security design, and has been produced by CSO
since 1998.
IRIS said with the introduction of a contactless microprocessor chip in the
identification card, the card's security will be enhanced while at the same time
paving way for additional potential services to be extended to the card holder
through its multi-applications capability.
