Poll Results Show General Opinion of Iranian People about Nanotechnology

TEHRAN,APRIL 30 (FNA)- General opinions and beliefs of the Iranian people about nanotechnology were studied and analyzed in monthly polls conducted by Payam Nama-ye Fanavari Nano Journal in Tele Text Channel of the Iranian state-run TV.
The participants in the poll in February 2011 gave interesting answers to this question, "In your opinion, in which field nanotechnology has the most perceptible applications and products?"

Approximately 45% of the participants, that is the highest percentage in this poll, believe that nanotechnology has had a more perceptible role in "medicine and hygiene".

Each of the fields "agriculture and food industry" and "water and environment" has received 14.8% of the votes. Among the participants, 7.9% believed that nanotechnology has played the most important role in "textile industry", while 6.7% voted for "petroleum and energy" and "construction". Finally, 4.5% of the participants believe that nanotechnology has had an important effect on "automobile manufacturing industry".

In another issue of this promotional journal, a question has been asked about "the possibility of air pollution elimination by using nanotechnology in the future".

The received answers show that 94% of the people expressed the hope that this technology would play an effective role in controlling air pollution. The statistics seem to show that the public trust to the new technologies such as nanotechnology has had a significant growth. This fact indicates that the public awareness about this technology has increased.

According to the obtained statistics, 45% of the participants had a diploma degree, 23.5% were students or had a degree lower than diploma, 12.5% had an associate degree, 17% had a BS degree, and 2% had an MS or higher degrees.

Nanotechnology has a journal in Tele Text Channel of the Iranian TV, and it provides very useful information in addition to various competitions in the field of nanotechnology for the audience in remote towns and villages of Iran.
