ABOUT 1.1 MILLION CONSUMERS EXPECTED TO BENEFIT FROM WAIVER - TNB
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- About 1.1 million households are expected to benefit from the government's decision to waive the bills of consumers whose monthly power consumption amounts to RM20 and less.
The waiver is from Oct 1, this year, to the end of next year, said Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) external communications executive Arziril Alim Azizi Wednesday.
He told Bernama that the government's decision mostly benefitted those in
the rural and semi-urban areas, adding that the move would cost the government
RM170 million.
Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi made the announcement on the waiver
when tabling the 2009 National Budget on Aug 29 in Parliament, aimed at reducing
the financial burden of the lower-income group.
