Iranian Major Steel Producer to Add New Production Units

TEHRAN , May 3 (FNA)- Natanz Steel Company, located in Iran's Central province of Isfahan, will increase its annual production capacity in the near future after putting into operation two new production units, the company's CEO announced on Monday.
Addressing the company's personnel on the occasion of the international Labor Day, Javad Tavakoli announced that the company is now producing deformed and simple rebar as well as construction wires.

As regards development projects, he stated, "A melting unit with annual production capacity of 600,000 tons of steel ingots will be opened by the next few months."

He further stated that preparatory works for the construction of a unit for the production of iron sponge have been carried out, adding that the unit will have a capacity of 3 million tons per annum.

Tavakoli further noted that the iron sponge unit will provide direct jobs for 2,000 individuals.

In February, Iranian Minister of Industries and Mines Ali Akbar Mehrabian announced that the annual steel production capacity of the country will increase to 20 million tons in the near future.

According to the latest report of the World Steel Association, Iran is the second leading steel producer in the Middle-East. Iran's steel production rose 2.7 percent in the first half of 2010 to 5.9 million tons.
