Iran: No Excuse for Further Military Invasion after Bin Laden's Death

TEHRAN, May 3 (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast said that the US-led West has no more excuse for invading and occupying the regional countries after the death of the Al-Qaeda leader, Osama bin Laden.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that campaign against terrorism which served as a pretext for the alien countries to invade the region has now vanished," Mehman-Parast said hours after US President Barack Obama said that bin Laden was killed in a US operation in Pakistan.

"We hope that the incident would end wars, clashes and killing of innocent people and lead to the establishment of peace and tranquility in the region," Mehman-Parast reiterated.

Meantime, Mehman-Parast stressed that the US account of bin Laden's death displays very well that confronting an individual does not require a large-scale military invasion.

US President Barack Obama announced late last night that Al-Qaeda mastermind Osama bin Laden was killed Sunday in a raid by US covert forces in Pakistan.

Obama said he had directed helicopter-borne US armed forces to launch an attack against a heavily fortified compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan on Sunday acting on a lead that first emerged last August.

"A small team of Americans… killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body," Obama said.

Senior US officials said that in addition to bin Laden, three adult males died in the raid, two who were believed to be couriers for the Al-Qaeda leader, and one who was said to be one of his adult sons.

One woman who was being used as a human shield was also killed, the officials said, adding that the American forces lost a helicopter in the operation.
