Iranian Speaker Urges Further Expansion of Cultural Ties with Iraq

TEHRAN, May 3 (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani called for the further development of all-out bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad, specially in the cultural fields.
"Exchange of cultural relations between Tehran and Baghdad is an important historical issue," Larijani said on Tuesday.

Iran and Iraq are two important regional countries that have played effective roles in advancing the Islamic civilization, he added.

Larijani further pointed to the issue of dictatorship as an obstacle to cultural relations between the two nations.

Referring to the recent democratic movements in the region, Larijani said these are the dawn of a new era of history.

Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country.

Both sides are working on a series of plans to take wide strides in the expansion of their ties, in economic fields in particular.
