Tehran Keen to Strengthen Cultural Ties with Baghdad
TEHRAN, May 7 (FNA)- Iranian Culture and Islamic Guidance Minister Mohammad Hosseini underlined Tehran's willingness to further boost cultural ties with Iraq.
Speaking at a meeting with a group of visiting Iraqi professors and intellectuals here in Tehran, Hosseini renewed Iran's determination to increase ties with neighboring country in cultural fields.
"Iran is the land of culture, science, poetry and literature. It is the birthplace of many personalities who have been respected by the people of the world," Hosseini added.
"The people of Iran have interest in Iraq because it is the home of Shiite holy shrines," the minister added.
He pointed out that Iranian pilgrims like to pay tribute to the Shiite holy sites scattered throughout Iraq.
Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country.
Both sides are working on a series of plans to take wide strides in the expansion of their ties, in economic fields in particular.
