Chilean Top Official Urges Expansion of Tehran-Santiago Ties
TEHRAN , May 8(FNA)- President of Chile's Chamber of Deputies Patricio Melero voiced his country's willingness to expand ties with Iran, specially in parliamentary fields.
Speaking to Tehran's Ambassador to Santiago, Houshang Karimi Abhari Melero hoped for further engagement between Iranian and Chilean parliaments.
Pointing to visit of Iranian parliamentary friendship group to Chile, he expressed the hope the visit would help Iran and Chile have better insight about each other, the Islamic republic news agency reported.
In November, Chilean President Sebastian Pinera had called for the further expansion of ties with Iran in all fields, specially in economic and cultural affairs.
Iran has in recent years expanded friendly ties with Latin America, specially in economic, trade and industrial fields.
Since taking office in 2005, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has expanded Iran's cooperation with many Latin American states, including Venezuela, Bolivia and Cuba.
