Malaysian Tourism Minister Ng Yen Yen said Sunday that Iran has great potentials for development of tourism industry while calling for expansion of tourism ties with Iran.
Malaysian minister made the remark in a press conference at the end of her five-day visit to Iran and after meeting with Iranian Vice-President for Executive Affairs Hamid Baqaei in Tehran.
She said that during her meeting with Iranian vice-president they discussed ways for expansion of tourism ties.
'We discussed lifting the visa barrier for Iranian tourists willing to travel to Malaysia,' Yen Yen added.
She noted that Malaysia is going to establish companies to provide tourism services in Persian language for Iranians visiting Malaysia.
'During my visit to Iran, representatives of 18 travel agencies, five luxury hotels and two states accompanied me in order to find out about providing Iranian tourists with suitable travel packages,' Yen Yen added.
Referring to the fact that Malaysia began its efforts to boost incoming tourists from Iran to Malaysia since 2005, she said that the number of Iranian tourists visiting Malaysia over past six years has considerably increased.
'A total of 116,250 Iranian tourists visited Malaysia in 2010 showing a 14.3 percent growth in comparison with 2009,' Yen Yen said.
She noted that Malaysia's tourism revenues were $16 billion last year.
'We are going to increase Malaysia's tourism revenues to the level of $56 billion by 2020,' Yen Yen added.
