Iran to Launch 1st Electrical, Thermal, Cooling Power Plant Today

TEHRAN,May 9(FNA)- Iran announced on Monday that the country's experts and scientists have managed to build a pilot model of the first power plant in the country which can generate electricity, heat and cold simultaneously.

"The first 1-MW power plant for the concurrent production of electricity, heat and cold will launch operation at Kashan University today," Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mohammad Mehdinejad told FNA on Monday.

He said the pilot power plant will kick off work in the Central city of Kashan today, while Iranian experts are also capable of building the plant in larger scales for the household use.

"The efficiency rate of the plant is more than 80% and it uses an absorption chiller system in summertime while using a heating system in winters," Mehdinejad added.

Iran has recently taken giant strides in power generation through inaugurating different kinds of power plants.

Iran's first solar power plant was inaugurated in the Southern city of Shiraz late in 2009.

"All the equipment for the power plant was manufactured using domestic materials and expertise", Director of the solar energy division of the Iranian Renewable Energies Organization Peyman Kanan announced at the time.
