Iran Urges Islamabad to Stop Bahrain from Hiring Pakistani Mercenaries

TEHRAN, May 9 (FNA)- The Islamic Republic of Iran asked Pakistani officials to take proper and immediate action against recruitment of Pakistani mercenaries by the Bahraini regime.
Informed sources told FNA on the condition of anonymity that Iran raised the demand after reports from certain Pakistani tribal regions revealed that Manama has hired unemployed Pakistanis to intensify the crackdown on the popular uprising in Bahrain.
"The Pakistani side has pledged to follow the case seriously," the sources stated.
The sources, however, rejected Pakistani government's involvement in Manama's recruitment plot, and said the Pakistani mercenaries who have been dispatched to Bahrain are not official military forces.
"Rather, they are unemployed Pakistanis who have gone to Bahrain in return for cash payment," the sources added.
Earlier, media reports said that Bahrain National Guard (BNG) is recruiting ex-soldiers from the Mashwani Syed tribe that populates Sirikot city.
Of the some 90,000 residents of Sirikot a large majority belongs to the Mashwani and its sub-tribes.
The security delegation is said to be working to recruit men from this city, who belong to the Baluch tribes in Pakistan, to work as mercenaries in the Bahraini security services.
