Iran: US, Israel Trying to Derail Regional Uprisings

TEHRAN,May 10 (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast cautioned that the US and Israel are attempting to derail popular uprisings in the region through sparking sectarian strife and spreading Iranophobia among the regional nations.
"Derailing people's demands is one of the plots hatched by the US and the Zionists, and they try to create a rift among the regional countries for the very same end," Mehman-Parast told the Arab-language network, Al-Alam.

"For instance, they link people's demands in the regional countries to Iran and they spark religious and sectarian strife and Sunni- Shiite disputes," the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman stated.

"The Zionist regime and its supporters intend to spread Iranophobia in a bid to create a gap between Iran and the neighboring and regional Arab states," Mehman-Parast underscored.

"Americans and Zionists are seeking to misuse the regional developments and change their direction," The foreign ministry pressers said.

He further called for serious talks between Iran and the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) member states in a bid to avoid discord among the regional countries.

"No doubt, these negotiations and talks can lead to positive results," he noted.

The remarks by the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman came after the Saudi-led PGCC member states issued a statement at a ministerial meeting in Abu Dhabi, accusing Iran of interference in Bahrain's internal affairs.

Iran dismissed the allegation, and called on the PGCC states to avoid playing into the hands of the US and Israel.
