Palestinian MP: Zionist Plots Defused by Unity among Palestinians

TEHRAN, May 10 (FNA)- A senior Palestinian lawmaker stressed that the unity agreement recently signed by the different Palestinian groups has defused Zionist plots in the occupied territories, particularly in al-Quds.
"Unity and solidarity is the only way to confront the Zionist regime's projects for Judaizing the city of Quds (Jerusalem), and I hope for stable and durable reconciliation (among Palestinian groups)," member of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Ahmad Atwan told FNA in holy Quds.

He warned that the Zionist regime of Israel could implement its plots for Judaizing the holy Quds due to rifts and discords among Palestinians.

"In fact, it (Israel) has targeted the identity of the Palestinian residents in Quds through Judaizing the city," Atwan reiterated.

The comments by Atwan came days after Thirteen Palestinian groups including, Fatah and Hamas, signed a landmark unity deal ending their long-running division.

Prior to the agreement, Hamas and Fatah, headed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, were at loggerheads with each other since Hamas won the parliamentary elections in January of 2006. After winning the elections, Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip ending months of bloody conflict with Fatah allied security forces. Egypt and other Arab countries made several attempts to reach a reconciliation deal between the two largest Palestinian factions, but they failed.

According to internal sources, the landmark agreement will include formation of a caretaker government until elections take place in both the West Bank and Gaza.

Iran welcomed the Palestinian reconciliation agreement, and called it a positive move towards materializing the Palestinian people's goals and rights.
