Iran: US, Zionists Seeking to Create Rift among Regional States

TEHRAN, May 10 (FNA)- Iran warned that the US and the Zionist regime of Israel have hatched plots to sow discord among the regional countries, and called on its neighbors in the Persian Gulf region to keep vigilant against such conspiracies.
"Creating rifts among the regional countries is the conspiracy pursued by the Zionist-US propaganda and political campaign in our region," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast said in his weekly press conference in Tehran on Tuesday.

His remarks came after the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) lodged a complaint with the international bodies against Iran alleging that Tehran is interfering in Bahrain developments.

Mehman-Parast dismissed the allegations, and stressed, "We have announced many times and we do announce again that we do not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries at all."

"This is one of our foreign policy principles and we respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries, but people's demands should be responded properly."

He called on the regional countries to keep vigilant against enemies' conspiracies and refrain from collaborating with the enemies in promoting their ominous plots.

After the PGCC leveled some accusations against Iran in recent days, Tehran voiced anger at the move and described the allegations as unfounded and baseless.

This is while Iran has just criticized Saudi military intervention in Bahrain, and called on Riyadh to pull its troops out of the Persian Gulf island immediately.

People in Bahrain have been protesting since February 14, demanding an end to the rule of the Al Khalifa dynasty.

Demonstrators maintain that they will hold their ground until their demands for freedom, constitutional reform and a proportional voice in the government are met.

In March, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait deployed their troops in Bahrain to reinforce the brutal armed clampdown against mass protests.

Scores of Bahraini protesters have been killed and many others gone missing in the harsh crackdown since the beginning of the revolution in the Middle Eastern country.
