Jalili: Recent Developments Signify Iran's Correct Understanding of Realities

TEHRAN,May 10 (FNA)- Iran's top security official and chief negotiator in talks with the world powers said regional developments in recent months displayed that Tehran had a correct understanding of the realities when it offered its package of proposals to the G5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) three years ago.
"Developments in recent months showed that the package of proposals Iran offered three years ago was based on a correct understanding of the realities,"
Saeed Jalili, who is Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), said in his reply letter to European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton on Tuesday.

The letter, which was a response to Ashton's earlier letter on talks between Iran and the G5+1, was submitted to the EU foreign policy chief by Tehran's Envoy to the EU Ali Asqar Khaji.

Also in his letter to Ashton, Jalili underlined, "Certain governments can no more continue their useless insistence on the continuation of unequal relations in the world, confrontation against the nations' will and demands, and support for tyrannical rulers."

"Nations' will is going to replace tyrannical relations in the international order," he added.

As regards the talks between Tehran and the six world powers, the Iranian top negotiator said, "I welcome your return to the talks for cooperation on common points."

Jalili also described "respect for nations' rights" and "avoiding use of force" as the two main pillars of cooperation.

Iran and G5+1 attended three rounds of talks in Istanbul, Turkey, in January.

The Iranian side was presided by Jalili, while Ashton headed delegations from the six world powers.

Last night, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had informed that Tehran would soon give a response to Ashton's letter.

Ahmadinejad also welcomed the G5+1's return to the talks with Iran, and said, "We have always been ready for negotiations but negotiations should be within the framework of justice and respect and in the direction of mutual cooperation and we hope that they have reached the conclusion that talks within the framework of law and justice and cooperation with the Iranian nation serve their interests more."

Ahmadinejad also appreciated the Turkish government for hosting the previous round of talks between Iran and the G5+1, and expressed the hope that the important issue would be resolved in future rounds of talks in Istanbul.
