Iran, Denmark have ancient cultural ties: Danish envoy

Danish Ambassador to Iran Anders Christian Hougaard said on Tuesday that the two countries have had cultural ties since the ancient times.

In a meeting with the deputy governor general of Fars province, Dehqanan, the ambassador said that one of the reasons for the longstanding relations is the activity of the Danish engineers in Iran in the fields of construction of railway and roads 70 years ago.

The ambassador said that currently, Danish engineers are working on various Iranian projects.

“The reason for my presence in Shiraz is to attend a ceremony marking the 250th anniversary of a Danish delegation’s visit to Fars province to undertake scientific works on Persepolis (Takht-e Jamshid).”

The ambassador said that Denmark is willing to develop cooperation with Iran in all fields.

He welcomed the proposal to hold cultural weeks in both countries and called for organizing the programs at the earliest.

Many Danish tourists are visiting Shiraz indicating that they are familiar with the tourism capacities of the city, he said.

Hougaard further noted that international Danish companies are operating in Iran.

He hoped that Denmark’s exports to Iran will boost from the current $200 million a year.

Dehqanan, for his part, said that Fars province is interested to develop cooperation with Denmark.
