MP: Region Not to Forget Saudi-UAE Complicity against Bahraini People

TEHRAN,May 11 (FNA)- A senior Iranian legislator condemned the Saudi and UAE military invasion of Bahrain, and said the region will never forget that al-Nahayan, al-Saud and al-Khalifa dynasties launched a joint cooperation to suppress and massacre the innocent people in Bahrain.
"The al-Nahayan-al-Saud cooperation with the al-Khalifa will never be forgotten in the Middle-East region," member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mostafa Kavakebian said on Wednesday.

The lawmaker further dismissed the allegations made by UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahayan against Tehran, and said, "It is inhumane for the UAE to accuse Iran of interference in Bahrain and to issue statements against the Islamic Republic while the oppressed people in Bahrain are under the suppression and torture of their rulers."

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast had blasted the recent allegations made by Al Nahayan against Tehran, and advised the country's officials to adopt wise policies to play a helpful role in the settlement of problems in the region.

"We expect the regional officials to adopt far-sighted and wise policies instead of (uttering) statements which create tension and do not help to the settlement of the problems of the region," Mehman-Parast stressed last Wednesday.

The remarks by the Iranian spokesman came after the United Arab Emirates' foreign minister accused Iran of interfering in Bahrain's affairs.

He made the allegations in the second joint ministerial meeting for strategic dialogue between the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) member states and China in Abu Dhabi.

The provocative and baseless accusation was leveled against Tehran after Iranian officials warned certain regional countries that they are "playing with fire" by deploying their troops in neighboring Bahrain.

Bahrain, which hosts the US Navy's fifth fleet, is viewed as a very sensitive and determining factor in the power equations of the region.

While Tehran has just issued warnings and taken no action to interfere in the domestic affairs of the tiny Persian Gulf island, Saudi Arabia has embarked on dispatching troops to Bahrain, killing peaceful protestors in the country on a daily basis.

To help the Bahraini government crush the anti-government protests, Saudi Arabia has deployed more than 1,000 troops to the country at the request of Manama.

In a similar move, the UAE has dispatched around 500 police forces to the oil-rich Persian Gulf monarchy.

Bahrain's government has continued its military crackdown on anti-government protesters who demand the overthrow of the al-Khalifa dynasty on top of constitutional reforms.

Tens of Bahraini people have lost their lives so far and hundreds of others have sustained injuries following the violent crackdown on the anti-government protesters.
