PRESIDENT DRAWS W KALIMANATN GOVERNOR'S ATTENTION TO BORDER REGION PEOPLE'S WELFARE

Jakarta, Sept 5 (ANTARA) - West Kalimantan Governor Cornelis said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked him to pay attention to the welfare of people living in areas bordering Malaysia.

Cornelis made the statement after a meeting with President Yudhoyono at the latter's office here on Friday morning.

"President Yudhoyono said the welfare of people living in parts of West Kalimantan bordering Malaysia should be given special attention," the governor said.
Cornelis, who was accompanied by Vice Governor Christiandy Sanjaya at the meeting with the president, said the welfare of people living in border areas could be improved through economic development efforts.
"Economic development can be done through activities in the agriculture and mining sectors and this matter has been discussed with the central government and forestry ministry," Cornelis said.
He added the West Kalimantan provincial administration would also make other efforts to improve the welfare of the people in border regions.
"The administrative management of residential affairs in border regions must be put in order by providing residents with family cards and identity cards," the governor said, adding that the coordinate points of the border with Malaysia had already been fixed.
"The coordinate points between Indonesia and Malaysia have been fixed, and therefore we have instructed sub district heads in the border regions concerned to maintain the points," he added.
