Samsung starts production of world's-fastest NAND flash memory chip
SEOUL, May 12 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co., the world's top maker of computer memory chips, said Thursday it started mass production of new NAND flash chips that can transmit data at a faster speed than any other NAND flash available in the market.
Featuring a 64-gigabit density, the new NAND flash chip is equipped with a toggle DDR 2.0 interface, which allows it to transmit data at a bandwidth of up to 400 megabits per second (Mbps), Samsung said in a statement.
The data transmission speed is about 10 times faster than the most widely used NAND flash memory in the market, according to Samsung. The new NAND flash memory is based on the 20-nanometer class process technology.
Samsung said it expects that the new chip will power high-performing mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablet computers and solid state drives (SSDs).
