VP: EDUCATION SERVICE HEADS MUST PASS TEACHER CERTIFICATION TESTS
Jakarta, Sept. 5 (ANTARA) - Vice President M Jusuf Kalla has said that all heads of local education services throughout Indonesia must pass teacher certification tests.
"Vice President Jusuf Kalla has promised that in the future education service heads must first pass teacher certification tests," the chairman of the Indonesian Teachers' Association (PGRI) Sulistiyo said after a meeting with the vice president here on Friday.
According to Sulistiyo, a number of education service heads were not people with an educationist background. In one case there was an education service head who was a former fire brigade official.
"PGRI has suggested that in order to improve the quality of education, an education service head must be a university graduate and pass a certification test. And the vice president agreed with it," he said.
He said PGRI hailed the government's policy to increase the educational budget to 20 percent in 2009.
